TELUS day of service team journal
The TELUS team did a great job there yesterday unloading, sorting, crating, and bagging food donations. The Food Bank has a very loyal volunteer base, with many having been there for several years. I met some amazing people there, including one man has been with them for the past 13 years, after being brain injured in a car accident. Another volunteer has been there for 7 years, and is a TELUS retiree. A staff member there once was a client of the Food Bank (single mom of 3), then got a job working for them and her life is back on track as a result. (Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank)

I just think it's great that TELUS supports our community and provides us a means to come out and help our community; I think it's very important to become involved. And so to have an organinzed activity that's all laid out that enabled me to get involved, I just wanted to participate. (Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society)

I'd say get out and volunteer. It's something you may not think about it day-to-day, but get out and do it, and I guarantee you'll feel great about it. It's an excellent experience.

Thank you for volunteering on Saturday, September 29th, 2007 at the TELUS National Day of Service in Fish Creek Provincial Park. The Friends sincerely appreciate your support, and your personal contributions have undoubtedly improved the Park’s environmental stability. Everyone in the TELUS group did a wonderful job and we thank you for your hard work and dedication. Because of you, Fish Creek Provincial Park now has a more dynamic and sustainable environment. The Friends rely on volunteers to complete many essential tasks in the Park, which would not possess its natural appeal and biodiversity without volunteers like you to help. Invasive species like Canada thistle are becoming more prevalent and widespread in the Park and your effort in reducing their numbers is greatly appreciated. Thank you for pulling weeds, and please be proud for lending a hand. I hope you enjoyed yourself and the Friends would be pleased to have your help again. Congratulations and thank you for doing a wonderful job.
