Have a neat story idea? Tell us about it.

We’re looking for fresh, visually compelling story opportunities that:

Every story idea submission is considered carefully against the teamVision story selection criteria and current programming schedule. Please review the selection criteria before submitting your story request.

As there is high demand for coverage across Canada, we recommend that you let us know about your story opportunity at least 8 weeks in advance of the teamVision edition you are seeking coverage in.

story selection criteria

Every story idea is carefully measured and selected against the following criteria:

visual motivation

This is the single most important consideration for the teamVision channel. As our medium is driven by visuals, we give decided preference to stories that have strong imagery – elements a person can feel, touch, hear, and taste.

national focus and impact

Items that affect the audience will have a greater stickiness than ones that do not. The message should be suitable of interest to a broad enterprise-wide audience. Local stories should support a national message or theme to build relevance with viewers whether they are in Toronto or Prince George.

immediacy

The more current an event is, the more interest it will generate in the viewer. Unless it is an important update, teamVision will avoid stories that re-cap events more than two-weeks old.

human interest

Does the story tell something interesting about the subject? Is it a water cooler story that will have people talking the next day?

values and brand

Stories should demonstrate commitment to the TELUS Values and the furtherance our brand promise – the future is friendly.

What is a story focus?

A winning story focus is a statement that is normally centred on people and always has a cause and effect. It should contain strong imagery – elements you can feel, touch, and taste.

Example:

Jane Doe’s dream of becoming a marine biologist is about to come true because TELUS has connected her community, enabling her to earn a degree online.

Avoid inanimate statements that do not address the cause and effect or human impact of the story. Pitches like the following example are best left for media releases.

Avoid:

TELUS made a groundbreaking deal with the Government of British Columbia on April 19 to bring broadband access to 119 rural communities.

video footage

Imagine a world without sound. What images would demonstrate your key message? Could it be:
  • a technician fastening a cable drop to a residence?
  • a crane lifting equipment to a microwave tower?
  • a group of team members working in the community to build a house? or,
  • a young child scoring a goal at a hockey clinic?
Tell us what pictures your story idea inspires.
